First phase of Biswa Ijtema ends with Akheri Munajat

GAZIPUR, Jan 14, 2018 (BSS) – The first phase of the three-day 53rd Biswa Ijtema, the second largest Muslim congregation after the Hajj, ended this morning with Akheri Munajat (concluding prayers).

Senior most Imam (Pesh Imam) of Kakrail Jame Mosque Mawlana Md Jubaer conducted the concluding prayers of the first phase of the Ijtema, orgainsed at its traditional venue on the banks of Turag River in Tongi, seeking peace, happiness and wellbeing of the Muslim Ummah.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina jointed the Akheri Munajat from her official residence Ganobhaban in the capital.

The Munajat began at 10:40 in the morning and ended at 11:15 am, with participating over two million people from all walks of life, including cabinet members, lawmakers, professionals and political leaders.

Earlier, the Ijtema formally began with “ambayan” (general sermon) after Fazr prayers at dawn on Friday.

The second phase of the Ijtema is scheduled to begin on January 19 at the same venue and it will end on January 21.

Tablig Jamaat has been organizing the Biswa Ijtema on the bank of Turag river since 1967. Since 2011 the Ijtema is being held in two phases to ease the accommodation problem, an organizer said.
