Upazila polls from first week of March: EC
DHAKA, Jan 14, 2019 (BSS) – The fifth upazila parishad elections will be held division-wise in phases from the first week of March, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said here today.
“Decision has been taken to hold the fifth upazila parishad elections division-wise in phases from the first week of March. Hopefully we can announce the detailed polls schedule in the first week of February,” he told a press briefing after the 42nd commission’s meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban here.
Ahmed said electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in district Sadar upazilas across the country.
The EC secretary said the elections will be held in four phases and there will be another phase of elections to those upazila parishads whose tenure will expire later.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda chaired the 42nd commission meeting while Election Commissioners Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury (retd) attended it.
