Rajshahi University adopts 50-year mega plan

RAJSHAHI, Jan 14, 2019 (BSS)- Rajshahi University (RU) has adopted a 50-year mega plan for transforming it into a digital one through expanding the fields of ICT-based academic and research works.

Under the plan, Bangabandhu Square, university archive, international relation centre, media centre and mural of four national leaders will be installed in the campus premises.

RU administration revealed this in a view-sharing meeting on “Rajshahi University Website and other Digital Services” at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Senate Building today.

All institute directors, department chairmen, faculty deans, hall provosts and others concerned were present at the meeting.

Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Jakaria in the chair.

During his keynote presentation, Prof Khademul Islam Mollah, Director of ICT Centre, gave an overview of present situation of RU website, present service delivery and future plan to meet up the gradually increasing demands.

Treasurer Prof Mustafizur Rahman, Registrar Prof Abdul Bari, Student Adviser Prof Laila Arjuman Babu and Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman also spoke.

Prof Abdus Sobhan told the meeting that the 50-year plan has been adopted for overall development of the university’s education and infrastructure. This is the biggest ever development plan in the university’s history after the country’s independence.

At present, implementation work of Taka 364 crore given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2016 is progressing. Work of Taka 125 crore has been started and work of the rest allocated money will start very soon.

Of those, construction works of a 20-storied academic building, two ten-storied residential buildings and a dormitory are expected to be completed by next March/April.

A 10-storey administrative building will also be set up to accelerate the university’s academic and administrative activities. RU will construct the two new modern ten-storied dormitories for the students’ to remove the existing accommodation crises.

One of the dormitories for female students will be named ‘Sheikh Hasina Hall’ while the other as ‘AHM Kamaruzzaman Hall’ for male students.

Prof Abdus Sobhan said as part of the mega plan all the future development activities in the university will be undertaken in a planned manner.
