Rangpur Riders return winning streak in BPL

DHAKA, Jan 06, 2018 (BSS) – It was an all-round performance came from defending champions Rangpur Riders saw them to shrug off their previous match defeat as they bounced back to record an eight-run victory over Khulna Titans in the fourth match of Bangladesh Premier League T20 held on Sunday.

Despite a strong 90-run opening stand by Paul Stirling and Junaid Siddique, Khulna fell short as they were restricted at 161 for 5 in 20 overs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the evening.

The Irish batsman Paul composed 46-ball off 61-run with eight boundaries and one over boundary before he was clean bowled by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza while Junaid cracked 30-ball off 33-run hitting three boundaries and one over boundary.

Rangpur fought back picking up three quick wickets in a span on 18 runs.

Khulna Titans skipper Mahmudullah then came to crease but failed to take the responsibility as he perished to Farhad Reza.

The remaining Khulna’s batsmen toiled hard to accelerate the run rate in the end but failed in the face of some tight bowling display by Rangpur bowlers in the end.

Pacer Shafiul Islam was the most successful bowler as he claimed two Khulna’s wickets conceding 44 runs.

Earlier, a blistering half century by Rilee Rossouw saw Rangpur Riders posted a competitive total of 169 for 3 from their allotted 20overs after they were forced to bat first Khulna Titans.

The South African left handed batsman Rilee Rossouw blasted an unbeaten 52-ball off 76-run with four fours and two sixes and during the process he shared an unbeaten 103-run for the third wicket stand along with Ravi Bopara who chipped away 29-ball off 40 runs with the help of three boundaries and one over boundary.

Wicket keeper Mohammad Mithun (19) and Alex Hales (15) were the other notable scorers for Rangpur Riders.

Zahir Khan, Ali Khan and Carlos Brathwaite all shared one wicket conceding 30, 35 and 39 runs respectively.
