Govt did many things for women empowerment: Quader
NOAKHALI, Dec 22, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had taken many initiatives for women empowerment in all sectors.
“Sheikh Hasina did many things to empower women,” he said while addressing a women’s rally at Khayer Government Primary School ground at Janata Bazar of Kabir Hat upazila here.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said a good number of women are now holding important posts, including that of pilot and police officer, while the rural women are getting various benefits, like widow and old age allowances.
“So the women are eagerly waiting to vote for ‘boat’ (the election symbol of Awami league),” he added.
Referring to tremendous development in all sectors during the tenure of the present government, the minister said the villages will turn into towns if the AL is voted to power again.
About the electoral pledges of Sheikh Hasina, Quader said, “The daughter of Father for the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tries to do what she promises . . . She has said an unemployed person of every family will be given a job.”
The AL general secretary said people in groups are joining the Awami League while the BNP leaders have become isolated even after staying in power for about 22 years.
“They (BNP candidates) are doing polls campaign with very thin presence of their leaders and workers all over the country,” he said.
Upazila AL president Nurul Amin Rumi and general secretary Jahirul Haque Raihan, among others, were present on the occasion.
