Martyrs’ children demand rejection of Jamaat candidacy

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2018 (BSS) – Children of Martyred “Gourab 71” today submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission (EC) seeking cancellation of Jamaat leaders’ candidacy in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad election.

Leaders of the organisation demanded the EC to scrap candidatures of all 25 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders contesting the 11th parliamentary polls.

Gourab 71 handed over the memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at his office in the city.

In the memorandum, president of the organisaion Shahin Reza Noor and vice president Asif Munir Tonmay said that earlier the High Court declared registration of Jamaat illegal and cancelled its registration.

Besides, the International Crimes Tribunal called Jamaat a ‘criminal party’ for its role during 1971, the memorandum said. But a political party gave 25 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders nominations that were not accepted at any cost.

Talking to newsmen Towhid Reza Noor, son of martyrdom journalist Sirajuddin Hossain said, “We are observing. We placed our demand and will take decision after the EC’s decision. We will not want to see any member of all criminal organizations committed crimes during the War of Liberation in the state position.”

“Not only Jamaat but all members of criminal organizations committed crimes during the War of Liberation will not be able to take over charge in the country,” he said.
