West Indies clinch T201 series

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2018 (BSS) -Visiting West Indies finally able to restore their lost pride as they won the three-match T20I series 2-1 beating hosts Bangladesh by 50 runs in the third and final T20I held on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur here.

Chasing a massive winning target of 191-run set by West Indies, Bangladesh found the chase stiff and eventually dismissed at 140 in 17 overs.

Thanks to Keemo Paul his magnificent bowling display taking five wickets in the match that not only helped the World champions to clinch the series but also salvaged some of their reputation after the dismal performance in the tour losing both the Test and ODI series.

After the departure of opener Tamim Iqbal, who fall victim of run out in the second over, Bangladesh plunged into a deep trouble as they lost Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in a quick successions.

Soumya and Sahkib were removed by Fabian Allen’s back to back deliveries while Mushfiqur Rahim perished to Keemo Paul in the next over.

Opener Liton Das, the top scorer of Bangladesh’s dilapidated innings, failed to get any support from other end making 43 runs before he was the victim of Keemo Paul. Bangladesh never in a position to fight back in the match as the Tigers’ batsmen failed to build any effective partnership losing wickets in regular intervals.

Tail ender Abu Hidewr Rony(22 not out) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz 19 runs was the other notable batsmen for the hosts country.

Keemo Paul was the pick of West Indies bowler as he grabbed five Bangladesh’s wickets for 15 runs. He was well supported by Fabian Allen who bagged two wickets giving away 19 runs.

Evin Lewis of West Indies was named the player of the match while Shakib Al Hasan was given the man of the series award.

Earlier, opener Evin Lewis scored a blistering half century saw West Indies piled up a challenging total of 190 for all in 19.2 overs against Bangladesh, after they were forced to bat first by Bangladesh.

The two openers – Evin Lewis and Shy Hope – gave West Indies a explosive start contributing 76 runs for the opening stand before Shakib Al Hasan broke the partnership removing Shai Hope for 23 runs.

Lewis, fond his form today after poor performance of two matches of the series, completed 18-ball off 50-run, was aggressive with bat in the beginning of the innings. He punished the Tigers’ bowlers mercilessly hitting boundaries all square of the park.

The Tigers however fight back in the match with a few breakthorough but Lewis continued his onslaught at the other end. Mahmudullah then tilted things in favour of Tigers with double strikes to remove Lewis and Hetmyer off back-to-back deliveries.

The left handed Caribbean batsman blasted 36-ball off 89 runs hitting six boundaries and eight over boundaries before he was clean bowled by Mahmudullah.

Middle order batsman Nicholas Pooran smashed 24-ball off 29-run hitting two boundaries and equal number of over boundaries while Nicholas Pooran the other West Indies batsman reached the double figure making 19 runs.

Wickets fell in regular interval but the Tigers’ bowlers could not prevent West Indies to post a challenging total.

Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan all shared three West Indies’ wickets conceding 18,33 and 37 runs respectively.
