Rangpur in festive mood to celebrate Victory Day

RANGPUR, Dec 15, 2018 (BSS) – The city of Rangpur has worn a festive look
as the people will celebrate the Victory Day-2018 tomorrow amid huge
enthusiasm and fanfare paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and
daughters of the soil.

Officials in the district administration today said the law enforcement
agencies have taken adequate security measures to ensure peaceful
celebrations of the Victory Day in the city as well as at all upazila
headquarters in the district.

The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, freedom fighters,
Awami League and other political parties, all educational institutions,
sociocultural, professional and business organisations have taken elaborate
daylong programmes to celebrate the event.

The observance will begin with a 31-gun salute on Police Lines Ground,
placing wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ and hoisting of the
national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings at
sunrise on Sunday.

City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad
Joynul Bari, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya,
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, Police Super Mizanur Rahman and high
officials will first place wreaths.

Later, leaders of different political parties, freedom fighters, heads of
educational institutions, activists of sociocultural, professional, business,
human rights and other organisations, NGOs and common people will place
wreaths there.

Meanwhile, main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings have
already been illuminated and decorated with national flag, coloured miniature
posters and banners creating a festive atmosphere in the divisional city.

The daylong programmes include bringing out of a colourful Victory Day
mini-marathon with participation of thousands of people from Begum Rokeya
University to Rangpur Zila School in the city at 7 am.

The divisional commissioner will hoist the national flag and take salute
at march-pasts and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC,
fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards,
scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.

The district information Office will screen documentary films on the War
of Liberation and Victory Day in cinema halls and open places of the city
across the district.

Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of
martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and
welfare of the nation and its people at all mosques and other places of
worship.

Improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, jail, shelters of
older citizens, day-care and child centres, orphanages, Government Shishu
Paribars and vagabond centres.

Freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters will be
accorded receptions at Town Hall while the main discussion will be held on
the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the evening.

Drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, charity
shooting competitions for males and females, special discussions and sports
competitions for women, charity football match and Kabadi competition, essay
competitions and discussions for students, cultural functions and prize
giving ceremony will be organised.

The divisional commissioner will address the main discussion and
distribute prizes among winners of different competitions as the chief guest
with the deputy commissioner in the chair.

A colourful cultural evening will be arranged on the Central Shaheed Minar
premises to end the daylong celebrations at night.
