Short film fest begins

DHAKA, Dec 8, 2018 (BSS) – An eight-day “Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2018” began today at 64 districts simultaneously across the country.

Information Secretary Abdul Malek inaugurated the festival as the special guest in the afternoon at National Chitrashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

Speaking on the occasion, he said evil and communal forces hampered the country’s cultural activities but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentless to overcome the situation.

“In future, no evil force would be able to put barrier on cultural activities,” the information secretary said.

With Director General of Shilpakala Academy Liaqat Ali Lucky in the chair, it was addressed, among others, by Cultural Secretary M Nasir Uddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzer and President of Bangladesh Short Film Forum Zahidur Rahim Anjan.

Secretary of Shilpakala Academy M Badrul Anam Bhuiyan gave the welcome speech. Shilpakala Academy organised the festival. A five-member jury committee will review a total of 70 films this year.

This year, 48 short films and 22 documentary films will be screened in the festival.

Of the selected films, ‘Best Film’ will get Taka one lakh, ‘Best Filmmaker’ will get Taka 50,000 and ‘special jury award’ will get Taka 25,000 for both short films and documentary films.

Name of the awardees will be announced on the concluding day on December 15.
