Tragedy Day marked in Netrakona

Netrakona Dec 8, 2018 (BSS) – The “Tragedy day” of massacre by suicide
bombers on Netrakona Udichi office premises was observed today with paying
tributes to the memories of the victims.

On the day of 2005, a suicide bomber of the banned militant organisation
JMB carried out the suicide bomb attack on the office of Bangladesh Udichi
Shilpigosthi killing eight and injuring 50 people.

To mark the day, Netrakona Tragedy day observation committee took an
elaborate programme.

People of all walks of life including political leaders, public
representatives, freedom fighters and cultural activists paid tributes at the
monument built on the memories of the victims.

President of district Awami League Matiur Rahman Khan, renowned freedom
fighter and general secretary of the district Awami League Ashraf Ali Khan
Khasru and former commander of district Muktizoddha sangsad Nurul Amin placed
wreaths at the monument, among others.

As part of the programme, a protest- rally against fundamentalism and
militancy was brought out in the district town.

A large number of local people including students wearing black badges
joined the rally that ended on the Netrakona central Shaheed minar premises
after parading the main roads of the town.

Local elite, freedom fighters, political leaders and public representatives
led the rally.

A five -minutes silence also was observed in the district town from 10:40
am to 10-45 am today showing respect to the memories of the suicide bomb
victims.
