Real freedom fighters were neglected during BNP regime: chief whip
DHAKA, Dec 30, 2017 (BSS) – Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) ASM Feroz today said the real freedom fighters were neglected during the past BNP-Jamaat regime.
“BNP used the freedom fighters while it was in state power… But they (freedom fighters) and their family members were deprived of all benefits”, he said while speaking at the 46th Victory Day discussion organized by Muktijoddha Foundation (MF) at Bangladesh Medical Association(BMA) auditorium at Topkhana Road here.
Recalling the plights of the family members of freedom fighters, the chief whip said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown due respect to the war veterans and martyrs.
“Many freedom fighters did not get job and by this time, they have crossed the age-limit. The Prime Minister has created job opportunities for their grand children,” the liberation war veteran added.
Noting that a quarter is trying to destroy the nation’s culture in different ways, the chief whip urged all conscious people to avoid watching some foreign TV channels affecting the local culture.
He urged the senior citizens, specially the veteran freedom fighters, to take steps so that the new generation can know the actual history of Liberation War and the deals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
President of Muktijoddha Foundation Principal Gazi Delwar Hossain, also a Sub-sector Commander of Liberation War, presided over the discussion.
BMA President and former MP Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Director General of National Muktijoddha Council M Mizanur Rahman, Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman’s wife Mili Rahman, MF vice president Dr Shahidul Islam, general secretary Nazrul Islam Babul and joint general secretary Dr SM A Zafor, among others, also spoke.
