Marine cadets urged to work with efficiency
CHITTAGONG, Dec 30, 2017 (BSS)- Shipping Minister M Sahjahan Khan today urged the seafarers of the Marine Academy to work with sincerity and professional efficiency so that foreign shipping companies recruit more Bangladeshi mariners for their vessels.
Terming the seafarers as ambassadors of Bangladesh, the Minister called upon the new cadets to discharge their duties with patriotism so that the foreigners could not witness any kind of activities against the country.
The Shipping Minister was addressing as chief guest the passing out parade of 52nd batch graduates of the Marine Academy held at academy parade field this morning.
He said Bangladeshis are more efficient and hard working, so the opportunities and demand of their jobs in the international markets are very high.
The minister hoped that Bangladesh would become a key player in supplying skilled maritime manpower alongside China and Indonesia very soon.
He said that sensing the importance of shipping sector Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took initiatives to upgrade the institution.
He said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would make all efforts to modernize the institution alongside other attempts to implement the charter of change of day.
The shipping minister asked the mariners to be attentive to their responsibilities while on duty and attain professional excellence through continuous learning and gathering experiences.
Marine Academy sources said a total of 50 marine cadets of the 52nd batch earned commission from the 56 years old marine academy.
Commandant of the Marine Academy Dr Sajid Hossain presided over the function while shipping Secretary Mohammad Abdus Samad, dignitaries from home and abroad, senior officials from port, shipping sectors among others, addressed the function as special guests.
The Marine academy sources said over 4650 cadets received graduation and were working in ships at home and abroad.
