Netrakona mustard growers happy with better output

NETRAKONA, Apr 8, 2017 (BSS)-Mustard growers of the district are very happy
and delighted after achieving a better output of mustard with cultivating a
high yielding variety of the crop-Bari-Sarisha-14- this year.

The crops specialists of the district Agriculture Extension Department
(DAE) informed that the mustard cultivators could produced 5,400 tonnes of
the new variety of the crop from 4,000 hectors of land brought under
cultivation in the district this year.

They said the mustard growers harvested 1.35 tonnes of mustard from per
hector of land by farming the new variety Bari-Sarisha. The yielding rate was
double than the local variety of mustard namely Tori-7, they added.

The deputy director of the DAE said that the farmers had shown their keen
interest in cultivating the new Bari-Sarisha-14 as the cultivation process of
the new variety is very easy as the growers can harvest their crop within 75
or 80 days reducing the production costs prior to cultivating Boro paddy.

Replying to a question, he also informed that 7,945 tonnes of mustard
including 5,400 tonnes of Bari-Sarisha were produced from 6,700 hectares in
the district this year.
