Journalist Shahriar Shahid to be laid to eternal rest tomorrow

DHAKA, Nov 18, 2018 (BSS) – Eminent journalist, writer and Managing
Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Shahriar Shahid will be laid to
rest tomorrow at his family graveyard at Doukar Char village under Raipura
upazila of Narsingdi.

Journalists and admirers are to bid him the last farewell ahead of his
burial as the body, kept currently at BIRDEM mortuary, would be brought to
his workplace BSS, Jatiya Press Club (JPC) and the Dhaka Reporters Unity
(DRU). Shahriar was one of the cofounders of the mainstream reporters’ forum.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at DRU at 11.30 am from where the
body would be brought to BSS to allow colleagues to have their last glimpses
of him and then it would be taken to JPC where his second namaz-e-janaza will
be held.

Shahriar will be laid to eternal rest at his village home beside the
graves of his illustrious father famous journalist Shahidul Haque and
brother, famous artist Shahrukh Shahid after the third namaz-e-janaza ahead
of Maghrib prayers.

Shahriar authored 30 books based on the interviews of gallantry award
winning Freedom Fighters and other Liberation War veterans which appeared to
be a major documentation of the 1971 history while he made several
documentaries on the Liberation War as well.

A preacher of interfaith harmony and liberal Sufi ideals, Shahriar was
also a scholar of Sufi literature while beyond his professional engagement he
taught at Dhaka University’s Mass-Communication and Journalism department as
an honorary teacher.

Shahriar was admitted to Dhaka’s Apollo Hospitals on November 14 with
stomach pain and breathing problem and died after three days with doctors
attributing his demise to a severe heart attack.

He breathed his last at about 1.50pm yesterday at the age of 55.
