DHAKA, Nov 13, 2018 (BSS) – The Election Commission (EC) has asked the law enforcement agencies to remain alert so that none can carry out showdown at the time of collecting and submitting nomination papers for the 11th parliamentary election.

The commission today sent letters to the inspector general of police (IGP) and other concerned in this regard.

The letter said after the announcement of the election schedule, nomination aspirants of different parties are bringing out processions and showdowns with motorcycles and other vehicles at the time of collecting and submitting nomination papers at their respective party offices, which is a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct.

The commission also gave directives to the authorities concerned to ensure that such incidents could not take place again during the submission of nomination papers at the offices of returning officers and assistant returning officers.

Besides, the EC issued a notification of the revised schedule of the national election fixing the last date of nomination paper submission on November 28 and the polls date on December 30.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on December 2 while the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 9 next.
