Bangladesh gets constitution through bloody war: Speaker

DHAKA, Nov 13, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today said the constitution of Bangladesh is a unique one, which
was achieved through a bloody liberation war in 1971.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had given the
constitution in 1972 after the country’s independence. The nation had got the
independent Bangladesh and the constitution sacrificing the lives of 30 lakh
martyrs and the honor of two lakh women,” she said.

The Speaker was addressing a session titled, ‘Parliament: Role, Function
and Parliamentary Practices in the Context of Parliamentary Democracy’ at a
training programme at Defence Service Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at
Mirpur cantonment here, a handout said.

Noting that the joint contribution of the government and the opposition
help make the parliament effective, Shirin Sharmin said the 10th parliament
was a unique one in this context.

DSCSC Commandant Major General Md Enayet Ullah, Deputy Commandant
Commodore M Rashed Ali and Brigadier General SM Mahbub Ul Alam were, among
others, present at the function.

A total of 45 officials from 19 countries and 170 officials of
Bangladesh, Army, Navy and Air forces took part in the training programme.
