Use of modern technology stressed for mango yield

RAJSHAHI, Dec 24, 2017 (BSS) – Scientists and researchers at a function stressed on using modern technologies in mango farming for making this juicy fruit farming more profitable and boosting its production.

The observation came in the closing session of a daylong farmers training styled “Modern Technology in Mango Farming and its Post-harvest Management” here yesterday.

Fruit Research Station (FRS) of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institution (BARI) organized the training at FRS Seminar Hall. More than 80 farmers from different areas in the region joined the training.

Director General of BARI Dr Abul Kalam Azad and its Director Dr Naresh Chandra Dev Barma addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with Dr Hamim Reza, Chief Scientific Officer of Regional Horticulture Research Station, in the chair.

Principal Scientific Officer of FRS Dr Alim Uddin, Principal Scientific Officer of Regional Wheat Research Station Dr Ilias Hossain and Senior Scientific Officer Dr Shakhawat Hossain also spoke.

Dr Kalam Azad said application of modern technologies in mango orchards will protect the fruit from pest attack and ensure quality and better yield.

Dr Azad added the government agencies and non-government organizations are also providing training to the growers and traders with post-harvest handling, transportation and marketing of mango in safe and hygienic ways.
