Vitamin A plus campaign observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Dec 23, 2017 (BSS)- The National Vitamin ‘A’ Plus Campaign-2017 (Second round), was observed today in the city and nine upazilas of the district with a target of administering vitamin A capsules to around 3.48 lakh babies.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation(RCC) Musaddique Hossain Bulbul inaugurated the city level campaign at green plaza this morning.

Ward Councilors Nurun Nahar and Nasima Khanom and Chief Health Officer Dr Anzuman Ara Begum were present, among others, concerned there.

In the city, around 61,460 children under five years of age were administered vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules. The campaign began at 8am at 384 centres, including 343 permanent and 41 mobile ones, simultaneously.

Over 768 volunteers including family welfare and health assistants were engaged for giving vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules to the children.

Meanwhile, around 2.87 lakh children under five years of age were administered vitamin ‘A’ capsules at 1,856 centres including 1,744 outreach ones in nine upazilas of the district.

Over 3,712 volunteers, 376 family welfare and 241 health assistants were engaged for administering the capsules to the targeted children.

“We have put utmost importance to make the campaign a total success,” said Dr Sanjit Kumar Shaha, Civil Surgeon, while talking to BSS here this afternoon.

He mentioned that vitamin ‘A’ supplementation is essential for the normal functioning of the visual system, maintenance of cell function for growth, red blood cell production, immunity and reproduction.

It’s also very important for reduction of the diarrheal attack and prevention of post-measles blindness.
