Govt ensures speedy disposal of cases: Anisul

DHAKA, Nov 05, 2018 (BSS)- Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq today said that the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established the rule of law and ensured speedy disposal of cases.

“Sheikh Hasina’s government established the rule of law and took steps to ensure speedy disposal of cases. The government is committed to formulating independent and defined policies for rule of law to ensure the security of life and property of the people, protection of individual rights and the dissention of justice on the basis of equality and fairness, he said.

The law minister came up with the observations while presenting the keynote speech at a scholarship-giving ceremony at Dhaka University.

“Justice Sikandar Ali Memorial Scholarship” was given to two meritorious students of the Department of Law of DU at the conference room of Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.

Anisul said the citizens of Bangladesh can now say with utmost confidence that no criminal will indemnified or protected because of their political background or power.

“By holding all criminals accountable for their actions, the government has made it clear to all that every citizen is equal before the law and all will be accorded equal protection of law,” he said.

“By taking these steps, our prime minister set a standard and principle that none is above the law and ‘no crime shall go unpunished. She has brought the swinging pendulum of rule of abused by successive governments into equilibrium to deliver equity and justice for all,” he added.

Speaker of the National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was present at the event as the chief guest.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Law Professor Dr. Md. Rahmat Ullah, DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, addressed the function.

The speaker gave away the “Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund Scholarship” to Joyonto Kumar Mridha and Iffat Sazia Mim, two third-year LLB students.
