Bumper Rupa-Aman production likely in Sylhet
SYLHET, Nov 5, 2018 (BSS) – Farmers are expecting to see a bumper
production of Rupa-Aman paddy in the Sylhet region in this season with
production of 10 lakh tonnes as favorable weather continues there.
Officials at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Sylhet said
the Rupa-Aman has been cultivated in 4,00,175 hectors of land in the region
in this season exceeding its target of 3,84,005 hectors.
The DAE set a target of bringing 1,38,355 hectors of land under Rupa-Aman
cultivation in Sylhet while 96,246 hectors in Moulvibazar, 75,210 hectors in
Habiganj and 74,214 hectors in Sunamganj.
The target of rice production has been set at 973,793 tonnes from the
targeted area, the officials said.
Of the total land, Ufshi varieties of paddy has been cultivated in 3,10,721
hectors while local varieties in 73,284 hectors.
However, the DAE is expecting more production than their target if any
natural calamity does not cause damage to paddy cultivation.
