JS passes BSTI bill, 2018

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 28, 2018 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad today passed the BSTI
Bill, 2018 with a view to make the quality of the local products accepted in globally and
also to make certificate by the international organizations easier for the Bangladeshi
products.

Industries Minister Amir Hossen Amu moved the bill in the House which was
unanimously passed in an amended form by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury in the chair.

Piloting the bill, the minister said the draft of the BSTI bill 2018 was approved finally in
the cabinet through amending the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution
Ordinance 1985 and the amended act in 2003, in order to make it time befitting.

He said the proposed bill will help make the local products accepted globally.

At the same time, the law will help take initiative for maintaining the quality of the
imported products, he noted.

Earlier, the house sent the bill to the concerned parliamentary standing committee for
providing reports with two days.
