8 upazilas come under cent percent electrification in Sylhet
SYLHET, Oct 27, 2018 (BSS) – A total of eight upazilas out of 13 under Sylhet district have come under cent percent electrification with completion of cent percent power supply to four more new upazilas.
The upazilas came under the cent percent electrification are Dakshin Surma, Fenchuganj, Beanibazar, Bishwanath, Balaganj and Golapganj under the Palli Bidyut Samity-1 and Sylhet Sadar and Jaintiapur under the Palli Bidyut Samity-2, officials said.
Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-1 Senior General Manager Engineer Mahbubul Alam said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already inaugurated the cent percent electrification in Dakshin Surma, Fenchuganj and Beanibazar upazilas while proposal has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for inaugurating the cent percent electrification in Bishwanath, Balaganj and Golapganj upazilas.
Besides, Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-2 Deputy General Manager Engineer Binoy Kumar Das said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already inaugurated the cent percent electrification in the Sadar upazila while a letter has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for inaugurating the cent percent electrification in Jaintiapur upazila.
A total of 3,231 kilometers electricity lines were constructed at a cost of Taka 294.45 crore to reach electricity to 2,143 villages under the Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-1. About 1,91,000 consumers have got electricity connections since 2009 under the Samity.
Talking to BSS, local lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury said remarkable progress has been made in the country’s power sector under the present government.
