Eight killed, 20 injured in Panchagarh road accident

RANGPUR, Oct 26, 2018 (BSS) – At least eight persons, including women and
children, were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident at Doshmile
Bazar point on the Panchagarh-Banglabandha Highway under Sadar upazila in
Panchagarh district tonight.

However, identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

“The accident took place when a Banglabandha-bound bus of ‘Bhai-Bone
Paribahan’ and a Panchagarh-bound electric pole-laden truck from Bhajanpur
collided head-on around 7:45 pm, killing five passengers dead on the spot and
23 others injured,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchagarh Sadar Thana Abu
Akkas Ahmad told BSS.

Being informed, fire service and civil defence personnel from Panchagarh
and Tentulia stations and police forces from Panchagarh Sadar Thana rushed to
the spot, rescued all injured persons and sent them to Panchagarh Modernised
Sadar Hospital (PSMH).

“Three of the injured passengers succumbed to their injuries at PSMH where
12 are now undergoing treatment as eight of the inured persons were released
after providing primary aid,” said on-duty physician at PSMH Dr Monwarul
Islam.

Conditions of seven of the inured persons were stated to be critical, Dr
Islam added.

High officials of the Panchagarh district and police administrations and
local public representatives visited the spot and PSMH and directed the
physicians for providing the best possible treatments to the injured persons.

“The process of filing a case in this connection is in progress,” the OC
informed the national news agency around 10:15 pm.
