Turkey reassures continued support over Rohingya crisis

DHAKA, Dec 19, 2017 (BSS) – Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim today
reassured Ankara’s continued support for Bangladesh in handling the Rohingya
crisis and pit on sustained pressures on Myanmar to ensure a safe and
dignified repatriation of their forcibly displaced people as he met President
M Abdul Hamid.

“The Turkish premier reassured our president of continued support of his
country over Rohingya issue and put on sustained pressures on Myanmar to take
them back providing all security and dignity,” a Bangabhaban spokesman said
after Yildirim called on the president this evening.

Yildirim, he said, lauded the role in handling the crisis and said his
government chalked up a work plan to stand by Bangladesh in resolving the
crisis as early as possible.

President Hamid expressed gratitude to Turkey for providing sincere
supports to address the issue of displaced Rohingyas and thanked Turkish
President for convening a time befitting Extra-Ordinary Summit of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on Jerusalem issue.

The President also sought support and cooperation of the Turkey to elect
Bangladeshi candidate to the post of OIC assistant secretary general for
science and technology affairs.

He described existing Dhaka-Ankara ties to be very excellent and expected
it to continue in future.

The Turkish premier arrived here last night on a two-day official visit at
the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Yildirim stressed on joint-initiatives to utilize the potentials of two
countries for enhancing trade and commerce saying Turkish investors were keen
to invest in Bangladesh in different sectors especially Readymade Garments
(RMG).

Referring to the proposed “Parliamentary Friendship Group” he said its
formation would strengthen the bilateral and parliamentary ties of the two
countries t take the relations to a newer height.

Turkish PM led an eight-member delegation during the call on while
Bangladesh state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam,Foreign
Secretary Md Shahidul Haque and secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban, and
senior civil and military officials were present.
