Idols of Durga Puja to be immersed by 10pm on Oct 19

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2018 (BSS)- Immersion of idols of Durga Puja must be done by 10 pm on the day of Bijoya Dashami across the country, a directive issued here by Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee today.

At a view-exchange meeting of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee with journalists the Hindu community leaders issued other directives including keeping processions of Bijoya Dashami off from 12 noon to 2pm on the day coinciding the Juma prayer. The Bijoya Dashami, the concluding day of the festival, will be celebrated on October 19.

“We are respectful to all religions. We are giving the directives to maintain sanctity of other religions,” said a statement read out on the occasion.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President Milon Kanti Dutta and General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Chattarjee, journalist Swapan Kumar Saha, Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee President Shoilendra Nath Majumder and General Secretary Kishore Ranjan Mandal, among others, addressed the meeting at Dhakeshwari National Temple.

The five-day-long Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Bangalee Hindu community, will begin on October 15 through the incarnation (Bodhon) of the Goddess Durga on the day of Maha Shashti at temples across the country.

The statement said as many as 31,272 permanent and temporary pandals of Durga Puja are being erected across the country. This year puja pandals have been increased by 1195 compared to previous year.
